Buster’s diary
Well – what can I say about Buster – where do I start – he was the largest character I’ve ever known in a sheep and his personality will stay with me for ever.

Buster was bought in Sept 2004 at the age of 5 and became our first stud ram. We purchased him from Mrs LP Jackson at the Chelford Rare Breed Sale as we couldn’t take our eyes off him – he had amazing stature and fantastic features – a huge square head and strong stocky body.
Previously known as ‘no-neck’ for his bull-dog like conformation, Buster already had a reputation as a bit of a hand-full. He had a long track record as a rare-breed champion and a prolific sire with abundant prize-winning offspring – we were very excited to see what he could do for us.

Apart from knocking us down every time we went into his field we fell in love with him immediately. There was never a dull moment with Buster around. Although very aggressive we came to realise that this was his way of communicating and that under all that wool there was really a cheeky yet soppy and loveable character.

Buster soon became part of our family, although the children were on strict orders never to go near him due to him being ‘very boisterous’. He would bulldoze his way through gates and fences if they got in his way and was soon known by people in the village for his occasional raucous walk-about.

Buster was a great stock ram and thoroughly enjoyed his job. We kept Buster busy until his retirement in 2009 at the age of 10. Buster could never stay out of a fight with our other rams and was quite often the culprit for many incidents. Sadly his fighting days were over in 2011, at the age of 12, after wrestling his way through two exceptional hard winters he just ran out of steam.

With us Buster Sired:
Jackson, Pebbles, George, Lucky, Olivia, Byron, Bronte, Ben, Blossom, Bluebell, Bradley, Blizzard, Boycott, Charlie 1, Charlie 2, Charlie 3, Chelsea, Coco, Charlton, Charlotte, Chloe, Cuthbert, Connie, Dempsey, Darcey, Doris, Dylan, Digby, Derek, Duke and possibly many more we never knew about.

Buster was the daddy of all daddies and the figure head of our whole flock – we love you Buster, you can knock me down again any day.
